Preliminary Ecological Appraisal (PEA)
A Preliminary Ecological Appraisal (PEA) is often the first step for most projects. It involves a detailed site visit to record existing habitats and identify any evidence or potential presence of protected species. This is important for understanding the ecological baseline of a site providing a crucial foundation for understanding its current condition and determining whether further specific surveys are needed in the context of your proposal. In some cases, a PEA may be the only survey required for your project. However, it can also highlight the need for additional protected species surveys to meet planning permission requirements.
At Noctua Ecology, we implement the most up-to-date and widely accepted UKHab habitat classification system to accurately describe habitats. In addition, we use GIS software to map and display our findings on detailed plans, making the report easy to interpret.
Our PEA report includes:
A concise list of habitats present on-site.
An overview of protected species that may inhabit the site.
An assessment of potential impacts on these habitats and species.
Clear recommendations to ensure compliance with wildlife law and relevant legislation.
This comprehensive approach provides you with the information needed to make informed decisions and ensure your project progresses smoothly and responsibly.
