Lewis Hillier | Director and Principal Ecologist
Lewis Hillier is the Director of Noctua Ecology, which he founded in 2020. With over a decade of professional experience, he has worked on a diverse range of projects for both small and large ecological consultancies.
Lewis holds a BSc (Hons) in Zoology from the University of Bristol and is an Associate member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (ACIEEM).
He brings a wealth of expertise to the team, including Natural England licences for surveying bats, dormice, and great crested newts.
A passionate bat enthusiast, Lewis dedicates much of his spare time to studying bats in the UK and has traveled to Uganda, South Africa, Peru, and the USA to research more exotic species. When he’s not working, Lewis enjoys mountain biking and hiking.
Sunny Jones | Senior Ecologist
Sunny Jones is a Senior Ecologist at Noctua Ecology, bringing seven years of professional experience in ecological consultancy. She has worked on a wide variety of projects for both small and large consultancies, with a particular focus on designing and implementing habitat enhancement and creation schemes.
As a skilled botanist, Sunny holds a Level 4 Field Identification Skills Certificate (FISC) and Natural England licences for surveying bats and dormice.
Sunny is actively involved in conservation efforts, serving on the committee for the Somerset Mammal Group and managing a site dedicated to protecting a rare Schedule 8 plant species. When she’s not working, you’ll often find Sunny immersed in identifying plants or enjoying life aboard her narrowboat.
Joe Wilkie | Ecologist
Joe is an Ecologist at Noctua Ecology, bringing over five years of professional experience in ecological consultancy. He has experience in habitat, bat, dormouse, and reptile surveys, with a particular focus on GIS mapping, Biodiversity Net Gain, and data analysis.
He holds a first-class BSc (Hons) in Environmental Resource Management from the University of Plymouth and is an Associate member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (ACIEEM). Joe also holds a Natural England survey licence for bats and is actively working towards obtaining additional licences.
Outside of work, Joe enjoys cycling through the countryside, gardening, and exploring his passion for cooking.
